Stuck with a horrible teacher?
Here’s what Seth Godin, marketing mastermind, has to say about that: “What you can learn from a lousy teacher.”

Now this is what I’m talking about! Student gets a college degree before graduating high school!
Here’s what Seth Godin, marketing mastermind, has to say about that: “What you can learn from a lousy teacher.”

Okay, so I feel like I’ve been a little… what’s the word? Inauthentic? Trying to be TOO professional, too stuffy, all that.
I do honestly believe that you can get a high quality education by focusing on your obsession, on something you care about. But high quality doesn’t mean that I have to sound like a boring old professor with cobwebs hanging out his ears.
Play value has a bunch of episodes on video game history. I’ve watched about four so far… I could definitely see these as a launching pad for educational purposes:
Here’s an absolutely stunning video of someone who, as Jonathan Fields says in the article, “steps up and says, ‘Just watch me.’”

If he can do that with a bike, what can you do with your education if you rise above the limitations the education system has placed on you?
Yes, I am back! Procrastination and life got in the way, but it’s all good: on to the custom education!
Unless you’re ridiculously rich, one of the biggest concerns parents have with a custom education is the cost. The first alternative school people tend to think of is private school, which probably is more expensive than some college education. The second is homeschool, which requires you to buy all your own textbooks and supplies and private tutors and all that.
The thing is, if you work it right, a custom education can be completely free. FREE.
Here are three articles that reflect the Cozy Sweater Education philosophy. Plus, they’re fun to read.
One of the biggest roadblocks to customizing your own education is getting your parents’ permission…because they have lots of worries you need to address and, if they’re not convinced that your solutions to their fears are valid, they won’t give their permission.
Secret code? NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. The idea behind NaNoWriMo is genius: write a 50,000 word novel during November. Does it get any better than that?
Yes, indeed, it does. If you’re customizing your education, your NaNoWriMo novel is the perfect English assignment.
No!
The question reflects the fact that there is a narrow method of teaching and learning at school, and that people who excel in this specific method are considered “smart,” while people who don’t do well are considered “dumb.”
A custom education is a form of homeschooling (or, if you prefer, homeschooling is a form of custom education). And homeschooling is legal in all 50 states. Some states have stricter requirements than others, but it’s possible anywhere. Call your custom education plan a “homeschool education” and get to it!
Extraordinary education for extraordinary people.
